This may be the beginning of gun confiscation

The State of Oregon has proposed a measure to confiscate all weapons it considers to be either "assault weapons" or which have detachable magazines holding more than 10 rounds.

It would give residents 120 days to either move such weapons out of state, render them inoperable, submit a request to register them with the state, or turn them in.

This could be the "first shot" in a real effort to confiscate weapons in the United States. I suspect such an attempt would not be pretty.
If someone blows up a school with a bomb they go after the bomber ... if someone shoots up a school they go after the gun.

A privilege is just a right that has been taken away by government.

Political correctness is cowardice wrapped in a lie.

Some (few) people think that registration means they are "allowed' to keep that firearm.

What it really means they will be on the top of the list of a SWAT raid if they dont hand it in when invariably the demand appears whether in 8 months or in 8 years..
"In the end we all just play the roles given us... Sometimes they dont fit so well,... but I guess we make do."

True. In EVERY case throughout history (England, Germany, Australia, , etc.), registration has been followed by banning and confiscation. What other reason is there to register guns than to know where they are and be able to find them later? (Answer: None)

Sounds like all the fed up escapees from the people's republik of Kalifornia took their commie ideals with them.
When the BIG one hits, hopefully, all that crap will get washed away.
    Am I blessed or possessed?

Unfortunately, with all the crap going on the blame needs to go somewhere. People no longer have the capability to reason through the social issues leading to this. So you gun folks are going to feel the wrath. If you're members of the NRA get them to start becoming a reasonable part of the fix. This has nothing to do with guns in most cases. It's about a social disease.

Everyone wants a quick fix. Good luck with this. I love those high school students asking for change. But you need to know what the problem is in order to fix it. They don't know but have a reasonable request.

One thing I would say about gun ownership is you need to be responsible for what you have. If you have sold your gun or allowed access to the wrong person, you need to be accountable for it. It is a double edged sword. You can't have all these freedoms if your neighbor is a jackass. Some method of gun control as a temporary measure until the social issues get fixed isn't completely out of line.

Pick your battles and become part of the solution. I think the NRA can help enlighten everyone if they change their focus a tad.

Now abuse me. I asked for it.

Nah, there's no point in abusing you. I've learned that people believe one way or the other on these issues and no one is really going to change their minds.

I will say this, though - the social issues aren't going to "get fixed". We are living the new reality. There are going to always be people who seek to kill others and make a big splash ... that is no longer a temporary or passing thing. And they will find ways of doing it, whether it's bombs, rental vans on the sidewalk, or something else.

Where I stand is that taking away my right to self defense isn't going to change that. England took away guns, and now London has exceeded New York City (the country's murder capital before Chicago went bad) in murders. They just do it by stabbing each other with knives instead of using guns.

Punishing the innocent for the crimes of the guilty has never worked.
