Alpha T Truck
The aT (alphaTruck) is meant to prove Nissan’s intentions to enter the full-size truck segment in a big way. While we’re not sure if we like it or not, we do agree it’s enough to make the Dodge Ram shake with fear. FreshAlloy.com’s exclusive preview continues....

Industrial explains the aT’s design perfectly. Nissan says that they gained inspiration from power-tools, while we don’t see that, we do see lots of plastic.

"The aT Concept’s appearance may be a little startling to those who have come to view trucks as sedans with an open trunk," said Shiro Nakamura, design director, NML. "Following our tradition of building authentic, hard working, hard playing pickups like the 2001 Nissan Frontier, we want to appeal to the true truck lover’s desire for a big, powerful, aggressive looking vehicle with more than just a little edge to it."

It features a huge grille with Nissan’s familiar V inside, large bumpers, massive hood scoop, and 22.5-inch wheels. Get the picture?? It’s LARGE! Inside the pickup bed are numerous tie-down points and a power-operated slide-out bed floor (usable with the tailgate down). A tool box compartment is integrated into the tailgate.

Nissan took into consideration the fact that many truck owners use their interiors as a “tool belt” when they came to the aT’s interior. Well-organized cubbies and compartments are everywhere. But this functional interior is also very stylish. The feeling is pure 18-wheeler-eque cockpit with a large steering wheel and automatic shifter lever. Again brushed aluminum is slathered ever where in contrast with the beautiful red-orange “saddle leather.”

Because this is still very much a concept, technical details are a little less finalized. Under the hood is a 300hp 4.5L V8 connected to a 4-speed automatic transmission, 4-wheel drive system, and rugged offroad suspension.

"As a design exercise, the aT Concept can only hint at the aggressive performance targets we’re developing for our production full-size pickup," said Mr. Ghosn. "We are committed that the truck’s performance will meet or exceed that of both current domestic and import branded trucks. Following our strong heritage in the compact truck market, when it comes to the new big Nissan truck we will not be content to follow the crowd."
